Hotwiring Has Lost It's Coolness Factor
Unless you really want better wireless signal...
Ok, so you caught me... Antennas are in no way considered to be "hot" at this level. Having a "hot" wire means that there is electricity running through it and there is potential of getting shocked. There is none of that here; so, no worries...

Moving right along... look at the picture above and you will see how the wires from the external antenna connect to the permanently attached antenna of the router. The inner external- antenna wire attaches to the little wire from the Netgear antenna that sticks out the furthest from the actual router. Twist these to together to the best of you abilities. Make sure they are together well. Tape it together with electric tape.

Now you need to tape the ground wire (copper mesh) to the small metal tube.
